"Miracles Happen" benefit to raise funds for Advanced Breast Cancer Research

Diana Hyland Miracle Fund supports research at University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center

Cleveland, Ohio; September 10, 2009 - Miracles Happen: A Night of Celebration, the second annual benefit to raise funds for advanced breast cancer research, will be held Saturday, October 24 at Shaker Heights Country Club, 3300 Courtland Blvd. in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

The Diana Hyland Miracle Fund was established in memory of Diana Hyland who lost her battle with the devastating disease of metastatic breast cancer on October 27, 2008. The Fund’s mission is to further research for advanced breast cancer - focusing on new theories, trials and treatments aimed at managing the cancer and extending lives. Every dollar raised goes towards clinical research at University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center, which is dedicated to innovative treatment and promising research with the ultimate goal to cure cancer.

"Diana’s vision was to create a fund that she knew would not benefit her but would be able to help others inflicted by advanced breast cancer," said Diana’s husband, Ned Hyland, honorary chair of the Miracles Happen benefit. "My children and I are grateful to all who have supported this cause that was so important to Diana. We’ve successfully raised more than $500,000, but we need to continue our efforts to reach our $1 million goal to establish a research chair."

What makes the Miracle Fund unique is that it is one of the first funds to focus solely on advanced breast cancer, and every dollar raised goes to local research. There are many other causes that raise funds for breast cancer prevention and early detection, however, the need for new trials, treatments and research for advanced breast cancer is greater than ever.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the benefit will include live music, a silent auction and a gourmet menu designed by noted chefs who will be "cooking up a cure" including: Zachary Bruell, chef-owner of Parallax in Tremont and L’Albatros in University Circle; Paul Minnillo, chef-owner of Baricelli Inn in Cleveland; Carl and John Quagliata, owners of Giovanni’s Ristorante in Beachwood, Crostata’s Pizzeria in Highland Heights and Cafe Toscano in Aurora; David Weisberg, chef-owner of Manhattan Madness; and Michael Klocinksi, Head Chef at Shaker Heights Country Club. A private reception, beginning at 6:30 p.m., will be held for corporate sponsors.

Remarks will be made by Paula Silverman, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director, Breast Cancer Program and Ambulatory Services, Ireland Cancer Center, University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Cocktail attire is suggested. Sponsorships are available. For ticket information, contact Cheryl Gutchall at 216-844-0448 or visit http://dianahylandmiraclefund.org/
